Project summary
GCA’s Urban and Water team is collaborating with the World Bank (WB) to integrate a stronger NBS lens to the WB-financed Second Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP2) (USD 350 million) – a nationwide Program for Results (PforR) implemented by the State Department of Housing and Urban Development (SDHUD). GCA is focusing on building institutional capacity among local municipalities in (a) improved management and financing of urban areas and (b) more inclusive and resilient urban infrastructure and services. KUSP2 provides capacity building and infrastructure planning support to 79 urban areas across 45 counties in Kenya, with the aim of leveraging urbanization as the road to national modernization, promoting effective urban planning and management systems, through counties as primary providers of public service delivery.
Within this context, GCA is seeking technical assistance to provide the WB project task team and, through the WB, to SDHUD with actionable guidance to support project implementation on prioritizing, implementing, and operating and maintaining various Nature-based Solutions (NbS) that contribute to climate resilience of urban environments in Kenyan cities and municipalities. The expected services to be provided under this assignment include developing a NBS Compendium for Urban Resilience for Kenya.
